Construction: Congruent Angles

About Geometry Worksheet Activity 2A:  

 

Activity 2A is practice for construction of congruent angles.

 

Prerequisite Skill: Name angles (Assignment 2.4).

 

How to construct congruent angles with a compass and straightedge:

 

(Do problem 1 by following the steps below)

 

1.  Place the compass point at the vertex (A) of the given angle.

 

2.  Draw an arc intersecting both sides of the given angle (<A).

 

3.  Place the compass point at the endpoint of the given ray.

 

4.  With the same compass opening, draw an arc intersecting the ray

 

5.  Adjust the compass opening to measure between the points of intersection of the first arc with the sides of the angle (<A). 

 

6.  With the same compass opening. place the compass point at the intersection of the second arc and the ray.

 

7.  Draw an arc intersecting the arc drawn from the endpoint of the ray.

 

8.  Draw a ray from the endpoint (B) through the intersection of the arcs.
