About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 4.12:

Assignment 4.12 is an introduction to the inequalities relating side lengths and angle measures in triangles.

Prerequisite Skills:  Measure sides of triangles (Assignment 1.11).  Measure angles in triangles (Assignment 2.6).  Calculate measures of angles in triangles (Assignment 4.8)..

Definition:  In a triangle, an angle and a side are opposite each other if the vertex of the angle is not an endpoint of a side.

Theorem:  In a triangle, the longest side is opposite the angle with the greatest measure.  The shortest side is opposite the angle with the least measure.
