About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 8.23:

Assignment 8.23 is an introduction to volume of pyramids.

Prerequisite Skills:  Find areas of squares (Assignment 8.3).  Find areas of triangles (Assignment 8.6).  Find areas of regular polygons (Assignment 8.9).  Find volumes of prisms (Assignment 8.22).  Identify bases of pyramids (Assignment 8.19).

Theorems:   The volume of a prism is equal to three times the volume of a pyramid with the same base and height.

(The volume of the pyramid equals the volume of the prism divided by 3.)

                                                                                                                                                                            1

The formula for the volume of a pyramid  is:  A =  3   BH  (V is volume; B is the area of the base; H is the height of the pyramid)
