Assignment 9.1 is an introduction to finding distance between two points on the coordinate plane.

 

Prerequisite Skills:  Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse in a right triangle (Assignment 7.3).  Name coordinates of points on the coordinate plane (Assignment 1.7)

 

Theorem:  For two points on the coordinate plane (x1, y1) and (x2, y2): the horizontal component of the distance between the points is the absolute value of

                        x2 - x1; the vertical component of the distance between the points is the absolute value of y2 - y1.
