Assignment 10.1 is an introduction to circles and line segments in circles.

 

Prerequisite Skills:  Name line segments (Assignment 1.12).  Measure line segments (Assignment 1.11).

 

Definitions:  The set of points at a given distance from a given points is a circle.  The given point is the center of the circle.  The given distance is the radius of the

                           circle.

 

                          A radius of a circle is a line segment with one endpoint the center of the circle and the other endpoint on the circle.

 

                          A chord is a line segment with endpoints on a circle.

 

                          A diameter is a chord that contains the center of the circle.

 

                          The length of a diameter of a circle is the diameter of the circle.
