Prerequisite Skills:  Identify and name tangents (Assignment 10.4).  Measure line segments to the nearest cm. (Assignment 1.11).  Calculate the measures of angles in isoceles triangles (Assignment 4.11).  Solve algebraic equations with one variable.

 

Definition:  A tangent segment is a line segment tangent to a circle at an endpoint of the line segment.. 

 

Theorem:  Tangent segments with a common endpoint in the exterior of a circle are congruent.
