About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 4.21:

Assignment 4.21 is an introduction to midsegments in trapezoids.

Prerequisite Skills:  Measure line segments (Assignment 1.11).  Solve algebraic equations with one variable.

Definition:        A midsegment of a trapezoid is a line segment with endpoints at the midpoints of the legs of the trapezoid.

Theorems:      The midsegment of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases of the trapezoid and its length is one-half the sum of the lengths of the bases.

The length of a base of a trapezoid is the difference between twice the length of the midsegment and the length of the other base.
