About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 5.6:

Assignment 5.6 is an introduction to conditional sentences and identifying the hypothesis and conclusion in a conditional sentence.

Prerequisite Skills:  none

Definitions:  A conditional is a sentence with two clauses preceded by the words "if" and "then".  The "if" clause contains the hypothesis (also known as the

antecedent); the "then" clause contains the conclusion (also known as the consequent).

The symbolic form of a conditional with variables to represent each clause is:    If p, then q.

(p is the hypothesis (antecedent) and q is the conclusion (consequent).

An Euler Diagram shows the relationship among sets.  For a conditional sentence, it shows the relationship of the hypothesis (antecedent) and

                          conclusion (consequent).
