Assignment 6.2 is an introduction to proportion in geometry.  

 

Prerequisite Skills:  Identify lengths of line segments (Assignment 1.12). Solve algebraic equations with one variable.

 

Definitions:  A proportion is a statement of equality of two ratios.    a  =  c    .

                          The products of the numerator of one ratio and the denominator of another ratio are the cross-products of the ratios.

 

 

Theorems:  If the cross-products of two ratios are equal, the ratios are proportional.

                          In a proportion, the cross-products are equal.
