About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 6.6:

Assignment 6.6 is an introduction to dilations of polygons.

Prerequisite Skills:  Name and identify an image in a transformation of a polygon (Assignment 3.5).

Definitions:  A dilation is a non-rigid transformation in which the image is the same shape as the preimage.  The center of a dilation is a point.  The vertices of an

image in a dilation lie on rays from the center through the vertices of the preimage.

An enlargement is a dilation in which the image is larger than the preimage.

A reduction is a dilation in which the image is smaller than the preimage.
