Objectives
Write ratios in right triangles.
Complete trigonometric equations for the sin, cos, and tan ratios of acute angles in right triangles.
About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 7.12:
Assignment 7.12 is an introduction to trigonometric ratios in right triangles.
Prerequisite Skills: Identify opposite legs, adjacent legs, and hypotenuses in right triangles (Assignment 3.13).
Definitions: A trigonometric ratio is a ratio of the lengths of a pair of sides in a right triangle.
The tangent ratio of an acute angle of a right triangle is the ratio of the length of the leg opposite the angle to the length of the leg adjacent to
the angle.
tan = opposite leg (tan is the abbreviation for tangent)
adjacent leg
The sine ratio of an acute angle of a right triangle is the ratio of the length of the leg opposite the angle to the length of the hypotenuse.
sin = opposite leg (sin is the abbreviation for sine)
hypotenuse
The cosine ratio of an acute angle of a right triangle is the ratio of the length of the leg adjacent to the angle to the length of the hypotenuse.
cos = adjacent leg (cos is the abbreviation for cosine)
hypotenuse
