About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 7.15:

Assignment 7.15 is an introduction to writing and solving trigonometric equations.

Prerequisite Skills:  Write trigonometric ratios (Assignment 7.12).  Find decimal approximations of trigonometric ratios using a table of trigonometric values (Assignment 7.14) or a calculator.

Definition:   An equation with a trigonometric function (tan, sin, cos) is a trigonometric equation.

For a triangle ABC, with right angle at C, acute angles at A and B, and lengths a, b, and c for the sides opposite A, B, and C respectively, the

                         trigonometric equations are:

                                             sin A = a         cos A = b         tan A =  a

                                                         c                      c                       b

                                             sin B = b        cos B = a        tan B =  b

                                                         c                     c                      a
