About Geometry Worksheet Assignment 8.7:

Assignment 8.7 is an introduction to areas of trapezoids.

Prerequisite Skills:  Identify trapezoids and bases of trapezoids (Assignment 3.18).  Find areas of triangles (Assignment 8.6).  Solve algebraic equations with one variable.

Theorems:  A diagonal of a trapezoid divides the trapezoid into two triangles. The area of the trapezoid is the sum of the areas of the triangles.

The area of a trapezoid is one-half the product of its height and the sum of its bases.

                                                                                                                                                                      1

                           The formula for the area of a trapezoid is:  A =  2  h ( b1 +  b2 ) (A is Area; b1 and b2 are the lengths of the bases; h is the height)
