Assignment 7.2 is an introduction to the use of the Pythagorean Theorem in calculating the lengths of sides in right triangles.
Prerequisite Skills: Identify the legs and hypotenuse of right triangles (Assignment 3.13). Find square roots.
Theorem: In a right triangle, the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs is equal to the square of the length of the hypotenuse (Pythagorean Theorem).
2 2 2
a = b + c (a and b are the lengths of the legs. c is the length of the hypotenuse.)
Forms of the Pythagorean Theorem:

a = b + c a = c - b b = c - a
